Daily Mail: ‘Hundreds’ of NHS Test and Trace staff are being let go after being left with nothing to do

Hundreds of staff working on NHS Test and Trace are being let go because there is nothing for them to do.

The scheme was announced by Health Secretary Matt Hancock last week but already employees are finding themselves out of work.

Workers spent weeks being trained ahead of the launch but after a week they have had little work to do, despite being paid up to £27-an-hour.

Britain today announced 176 more coronavirus deaths, taking the total number of victims to 39,904 –  as separate shock data suggests the UK’s outbreak is still killing more people each day than the rest of the EU countries combined.   

The UK’s death toll is now on the brink of passing the 40,000 mark, but the epidemic has slowed dramatically in the past few weeks. For comparison, last Thursday there were 377 Covid deaths, and 338 the week before that.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock today left the door open to the UK having a mandatory coronavirus vaccination programme.

An effective vaccination for the disease is yet to be developed anywhere in the world but Mr Hancock said if one is he would hope that ‘everybody would have the vaccine’.

But asked directly if getting the jab could be made mandatory, Mr Hancock said the question was ‘not one that we have addressed yet’.

The UK’s coronavirus testing tsar, Professor John Newton, then went further as he confirmed requiring people to get vaccinated is an option available to the Government.

Daily Mail: Kawasaki-like disease affecting children IS caused by the coronavirus and can only be diagnosed by antibody tests, scientists confirm

Scientists have found the first clear evidence that infection with coronavirus causes the Kawasaki-like inflammatory condition affecting children.

A study of eight children admitted to a Birmingham hospital with the condition reveals they were infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus several weeks before showing symptoms.

All of the children tested negative in the traditional lab-based test used to diagnose COVID-19 in adults.

However, a custom-built antibody test revealed the young patients had been infected with the coronavirus and produced antibodies to fight off the pathogen.

‘It’s a horror movie.’ Nurse working on coronavirus frontline in New York claims the city is ‘murdering’ COVID-19 patients by putting them on ventilators and causing trauma to the lungs

  • A frontline nurse working in New York on coronavirus patients claims the city is killing sufferers by putting them on ventilators, advocating against them 
  • The nurse persuaded a friend, a nurse practitioner who is not working on coronavirus patients, to make the video to get the word out
